Your Body Talks. Are You Listening? Shifting from Thinking to Feeling.

Post

We live in a world that asks us to think, analyse, solve, achieve and keep going. And we can become very good at it.

But what happens when we spend so much time in our thinking minds that we lose touch with what is happening within our bodies? The sensations, emotions, movement, tension, unconscious bracing patterns.

For us, this is at the heart of why we are so passionate about the body–mind connection.

Your body is not simply something that carries your mind around. It is continually communicating with you. Through sensations, tension, emotions, impulses, energy, breath and changes in how you feel, your body is giving you information about your internal and external world.

Sometimes that information is subtle. Sometimes it is impossible to ignore.

Yet many of us have learned to override it.

We tell ourselves we are fine when we aren’t. We push through tiredness. We dismiss a tight chest, a knot in the stomach or a sense of unease. We analyse our emotions rather than actually allowing ourselves to feel them.

And when we become overwhelmed, we often try to think our way out of it.

But sometimes thinking isn’t the way back to ourselves. Feeling is.

Learning to listen to the body isn’t about becoming hyper-focused on every sensation or trying to fix what we find. It begins much more simply.

So, how do we begin listening?

Slow down.
We can’t listen when we’re constantly rushing to the next thing. Creating even small moments of pause gives us an opportunity to notice what is happening within.

Become curious.
Instead of immediately judging or trying to change a sensation or emotion, we can gently ask, What am I noticing right now?

Notice without needing to fix.
A tightness, heaviness, fluttering or feeling of restlessness doesn’t necessarily need an immediate solution. Sometimes being present with what is there is the beginning of something shifting.

Allow feeling to be part of the experience.
We don’t have to understand everything before we can feel it. Learning to stay gently connected to our experience, rather than becoming overwhelmed by it or disconnecting from it, can help us develop a different relationship with ourselves.

Build safety and capacity.
Listening to ourselves isn’t always easy, particularly when what we notice feels uncomfortable. We need compassion, patience and supportive ways of coming back to a sense of steadiness.

This isn’t about abandoning the thinking mind. Our body and mind belong together. The invitation is to bring them back into conversation, so that we can draw on both our thinking and our felt experience.

For us, this is where meaningful change can begin: not by trying harder to become someone different, but by becoming more present to the person we already are.

If this resonates with you, or you just curious to explore more, we’d love you to join us for our upcoming workshop, details to be announced soon.
